Glen Shields Sun Devils come
up big, Olympians/London cancelled
Glen Shields Sun Devils travelled to Civic Stadium on the weekend
and came away with 3 points and a strangle hold on fourth place and a
berth in the Primus Cup.
The Sun Devils came out gunning and opened the scoring in the first minute on a goal by Marco Bonofiglio. By half time the score was 3-0 for the Sun Devils with Fitzroy Powell and Agostino Vaglica notching in the other two goals.
Oshawa Flames made it interesting in the second half with Flames' rookie of the year nomination Jimmy Kuzmanouski scoring two. Those two goals moved him into third place in the overall scoring race. Sun Devils' Fitzroy Powell got his second of the night, the win gave Glen Shields a 5 point margin over Oshawa with 3 games remaining to play.
The match between Toronto Olympians and London City scheduled for Birchmount Stadium was cancelled due to 'deteriorating field conditions'.
Upcoming League Cup
Action
St. Catharines Roma Wolves
host London City Wednesday night at Club Roma in their second leg of the
League Cup. Kick-off time is 8:35 p.m. St. Catharines won the
opener in London 3-2.
In other League Cup action, Olympians will be looking to advance to the semi-finals as they host the Shooters at Birchmount Stadium Friday night. Kick-off time is 8:00 p.m.
This years championships will be held at Birchmount Stadium Friday September 22nd, kick-off time at 3:00 p.m. Semi-finals are at 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 24th.
Toronto Croatia and Glen Shields Sun Devils have already advanced to the semi-finals by winning their respective groups in the first round.
CPSL Awards
Banquet
The CPSL announced today
they have introduced a new category for this years awards. Teams
will now be voting for best defensive player of the year. This years
awards banquet will take place Sunday, October 1st, 6:00 p.m. at the
Canadian/German Club, Cove Road, London, Ontario. Tickets are $45.00
