City gains historic win over Sun Devils

By STEVE KIPPEN, Free Press Sports Reporter

London City's 2-1 win over the Glen Sheilds Sun Devils yesterday in Woodbridge was not just another Canadian Professional Soccer League victory.
It was City's first victory over the Sun Devils in the four-year existence of the CPSL.
"We were full value for the victory," said Harry Gauss, City's technical director and general manager.
Cameron Medwin opened the scoring for City on a breakaway in the 38th minute, seconds after ex-City captain Phil Illman (*sic Paul Hillman*) had drilled the crossbar from 20-yards out.
After Glen Shields tied it on a penalty kick in the 70th minute, Jeff Brown scored the game-winner for London when he converted a Gentjan Dervishi pass off a free kick in the 80th minute.
"It was just a matter of time before we got a few breaks," Gauss said. "But we have to keep it up."
The win improves City's record to 2-7-2 on the season and moves it to within two points of the ninth-place Sun Devils.
London is back in action Friday night at Cove Road Field when it plays host to Toronto Croatia in a Oz Optics Cup game, at 8 p.m.
