The 2nd game: Canadian Olympic team vs CPSL Toronto Olympians
by Rocket Robin

While no reporters stayed for the second game at Varsity Stadium tonight leaving me with three tray fulls of uneaten donuts another game was played less than half hour later between the Canada's Under 20s and the CPSL league Toronto Olympians.

The Toronto Olympians feature former national team player Eddy Berdusco and have Gus Kousmanis and goaltender Brian Bowes and this year have added former Lynx player Elvis Thomas.

I didn't get the lineups for the Under 20 team and I haven't seen them enough to identify them. Paul James was on the bench.

The Toronto Olympians won 3-1!!

25 minutes Toronto Olympians Eddie Berdusco pounded in a 5 yard rebound into empty net after John Matias has his shot in the box stopped by the U-20 goalie.

30 minutes Elvis Thomas taps an 18 yard freekick to charging Gus Kousmanis who blasts a 15 yard shot to top left corner of net.

46 minutes...One of the great goals in history!!
Gus Kousmanis from the opening kickoff of the 2nd half finds goalie off line and takes long blast from center spot that dips right under the bar beyond leaping goalie who was about five yards off his line. The goalie ends up pounding the ground with his fists after that.

The Toronto Olympians sub in their reserves after that and still control about 50% of play.

88 minutes Under 20 GOAL...Rhian Dodds takes a penalty kick and blasts shot to right corner of net about four feet high. TorOly sub goalie Cris Walker slid left for ball.

Final Score....Toronto Olympians 3 Canada Under 20 team 1

It's hard to say if the kids only seemed to be one sub on their bench are that bad or the MEN of the Toronto Olympians are that good. They were the CPSL League and Cup champions last year and are ready to start their regular season next week.

I'm going to have to tape the National Team game at 4am tonight (local blackout in Toronto) to get the rosters as a security guy kept me out of the press box but I know most of you got to see that game on Sportsnet. I'll have a game report on my web page eventually.

I went for pregame refreshments with some reporters (thanks Dave Bailey) but they all vanished after the first game maybe to watch hockey and go for post game refreshments. So Jimmy Olsen was left behind to see that David Beckham calibre goal. haha.

The stadium didn't completely empty out after the National team game. Maybe 400 stayed behind and about 200 by the absolute end of the 2nd game.
