At Cove Road on
Friday night, London City entertained York Region
Shooters and sent their guests home on the wrong end of a
4 - 3 score.
The game got off to a rousing start with four goals in
the first eleven minutes. London City opened the scoring
with a goal from Semir Mesanovic after just four minutes
but York Region Shooters equalised within a minute with a
goal by Mich D'Angelo. The Shooters then shocked the home
crowd by taking a 3 - 1 lead with two goals from Willy
Guimarra in the 10th. and 11th. minutes. After this
hectic start, the game settled down and York Shooters
took their 3 - 1 lead into half time.
However, the second half belonged to London City. At the
59th. minute mark, Euclid Bertrand scored to narrow the
gap to 3 - 2 and the Shooters were then reduced to 10 men
after 76 minutes when Simon Roeleveld was red-carded.
London quickly took advantage of the extra man and Tonino
Commisso scored at the 78th. minute mark to tie the game
at 3 - 3. With London still pushing forward, they scored
the winner after 82 minutes with a goal from Jon-Paul
Rickwood.
The three points earned by London moved them to the top
of the league standings. Their next game is on Sunday in
Oshawa against the Flames and they will likely need
another win then to keep their place at the top as all
eight CPSL clubs are in action on Sunday. Both Glen
Shields Sun Devils and Toronto Olympians - in second and
third place - will be looking for wins to take them to
the top if the one of the others slip up. |
