CROATIA FIRST TEAM TO TAKE
POINT FROM OLYMPIANS

Toronto Croatia did something that no other team in the CPSL has achieved this year - they earned a point against the powerhouse Toronto Olympians. In a well-attended game at Etobicoke Centennial Stadium, the Olympians opened the scoring in the 23rd. minute as Elvis Thomas took advantage of a miscue by the Croatia defense and lobbed the ball into the net from 15 yards out. However, Croatia battled back and tied the game at 1 -1 just 12 minutes later on a neat three-way passing play to set up Tomo Granic for the goal.

Both teams had excellent scoring opportunities in the second half. It looked as though Olympians perfect record would be kept intact when Eddy Berdusco set up John Matas with just 10 minutes remaining but his shot towards the open goal from an acute angle was just wide. However, with time expired, Croatia almost stole the game when a header from Andy Madeiros grazed the post.

There was a shoot-out in St. Catharines in Wednesday night's other CPSL game as London City downed Roma Wolves by a 6 - 3 score. Frank Zumpano opened the scoring for the home side in the 17th. minute but London City fought back to take a 2 - 1 half-time lead with goals from Tonino Commisso and Euclid Bertrand.

In the second half, the fans were treated to a goal feast with five goals in just seven minutes. First Keith Moore evened the score at 2 - 2 with a goal in the 51st. minute. London City restored their one-goal lead just a minute later through Ciaran McCarthy. St. Catharines tied the score again at 3 - 3 on a goal by Jerry Cipriani in the 56th. minute before London City scored goals in 57th. and 58th. minutes through Peter Kirchberger and Semir Mesanovic for a 5 - 3 lead. Mesanovic then scored his second of the game in the 80th. minute to make the final score 6 - 3 in favour of London.
