BIG WIN FOR GLEN SHIELDS
SUN DEVILS

In a match-up of the second and third place teams in the League, Glen Shields Sun Devils travelled to London on Friday night and came away with an important 6 - 1 win. The three points moved them into second place ahead of London City - level on points but significantly ahead on goal difference. Scoring for the Sun Devils were Mike Glasgow and Phil Ionadi with two goals a piece and singles from Agostino Vaglica and Paul Moore. Ciaran McCarthy had the lone marker for the home side.

Friday's result set the scene for some crucial games on Sunday when all eight teams are playing and some of the playoff teams could be confirmed by the end of the day. With only the top four teams making the playoffs, the game between fourth-place Toronto Croatia and fifth-place Oshawa Flames means a lot to those two teams as well as the other playoff hopefuls. A win by Croatia would give them an eight-point lead over Oshawa with only four games left. A win for Oshawa closes the gap to only two points and gives the teams below them some hope as well.

Toronto Olympians, Glen Shields Sun Devils and London City could all clinch playoff positions with wins on Sunday coupled with appropriate results elsewhere. However, Olympians and London play each other at Birchmount so they can't both win. Although London have a ten-point lead over fifth-place Oshawa, they have also played three more games and are looking for points from their final two games against the Olympians and Toronto Croatia to ensure a place in the playoffs.

A Glen Shields win against York Region Shooters coupled with a win by Croatia over Oshawa would just about guarantee a playoff position for the Sun Devils. Last year's Playoff Champions, St. Catharines Roma Wolves have to win their game against North York Astros to keep alive any hope of being in the playoffs this year. It is also a must-win game for the Astros.
