TORONTO OLYMPIANS CLOSING IN ON
ANOTHER LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP

With the League Cup Finalists now determined - Toronto Olympians will face Toronto Croatia in the League Cup Final to be played on Sunday, September 26th. at Etobicoke Centennial Stadium - kick-off 3:00 p.m. - attention returned to the chase for the League Championship with the League's top two teams both in action on Sunday night.

League leaders and last year's Champions, Toronto Olympians, were visiting Oshawa Flames while second place Glen Shields Sun Devils were hosting the North York Astros.

Olympians took a big step towards their second consecutive CPSL League Championship with a 3 - 0 win in Oshawa. Former National Team Member, Eddy Berdusco, scored twice for the Olympians, in the 32nd. and 55th. minutes, and Phil Caporella made sure of the win with a goal in 70th. minute.

Second place Glen Shields Sun Devils kept pace with a resounding 7 - 0 win over the North York Astros. Leading the Sun Devils was Phil Ionadi with four goals - the top individual performance of the season - in the 25th., 28th., 36th. and 80th. minutes. Marco Antonucci had opened the scoring for the Sun Devils with goals in the 1st. and 14th. minutes and Peter Firebrace added the other marker for Glen Shields in the 65th. minute.

The Sun Devils are now the only team that can stop the Olympians although they remain five points behind with only two games left to play. In fact, the Olympians can clinch the title with a win on Wednesday night at Birchmount against the York Region Shooters.
