TORONTO OLYMPIANS REPEAT
AS LEAGUE CHAMPIONS

The Toronto Olympians captured their second consecutive CPSL League Championship on Wednesday night with a 3 - 1 win over York Region Shooters. The game was scoreless until the 35th. minute when Phil Capporella took a short pass inside the penalty box from Ron Belfon and blasted the ball into the net to give the Olympians the lead. Just two minutes later it was Eddy Berdusco's turn as he found some space to the left of the goal and rifled the ball into the roof of the net to make the score 2 - 0.

However, York Shooters kept the game close and in the 58th. minute, Willie Guimarra picked up a loose ball in mid-field and fired in a low shot from about 35 years out that eluded Brian Bowes in the Olympians goal and made it a one-goal game. Despite a couple of chances to tie the game at 2 - 2, it was Olympians who scored the final goal of the game as Ron Belfon played a nice ball to Danny Ziannis who had an easy tap-in to make the final score 3 - 1 and confirm Toronto Olympians as League Champions for the second straight year.

The Olympians can proudly lay claim to the title of Canada's most successful professional team over the past two years with a record of 41 wins, 5 ties and only 1 loss (on penalty kicks) in that time.

With the League Championship now in the bag, the Olympians are looking to repeat as League Cup Champions on September 26th. at Etobicoke Centennial Stadium when they face Toronto Croatia - kick-off 3:00 p.m. They are then looking to claim the one trophy that eluded them last year - the Playoff Championship. The Playoff Semi-Finals are being hosted by Oshawa Flames at Oshawa Civic Stadium on Friday, October 1st. with the Final being played the following day, Saturday, October 2nd.
