TFC ACADEMY AND MONTREAL IMPACT ACADEMY BATTLE TO 1-1 TIE SATURDAY
2010-06-05

Hamilton Croatia scored twice to win abbreviated game Friday

TFC Academy and Montreal Impact Academy tied 1-1 Saturday night, while on Friday Serbian White Eagles defeated York Region Shooters 3-0, Portugal FC nipped Milltown 1-0, Hamilton Croatia defeated Montreal Impact Academy and the London City vs. Brantford Galaxy game will be played again after their encounter was stopped by lightning.

Midfielder Kevin Luarca opened the scoring at 56 minutes for Montreal Impact Academy in the only game played Saturday and the visitors held on to that score until the 76th minute mark when TFC's Daniel Henry beat Montreal goalkeeper Dominique Provost for a 1-1 result at the final whistle.

It was Montreal Academy's fourth draw in six early season games and the second game this weekend in the team's two-game swing through southern Ontario.

On Friday, two goals by midfielder Milos Scepanovic and another by forward Shawn Brown in the first 20 minutes of play gave Serbian White Eagles their first victory of the season over York Region Shooters at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke.

Scepanovic opened the scoring from the penalty spot when he drove the ball just inside the left post after being brought down inside the box at the 7th minute mark.

Brown made it 2-0 nine minutes later after weaving his way through an unsteady Shooters defence and it was just two minutes later at the 18th minute mark when Scepanovic made his way with ease down the right wing to move inside before placing the ball into an empty net away from York Region goalkeeper Camilo Benzi.

With the score 3-0 at half time York Region fought back in the second half and at 55 minutes Jason De Thomasis struck the upright, one of two occasions when the woodwork got in the way.

The visitors lost hope of catching up when Marcelo Capazola was shown the red card by referee David Barrie at 55 minutes for bringing down a White Eagles forward who was closing in with only the goalkeeper to beat.

It was 3-0 for Serbian White Eagles at the final whistle.

Portugal FC picked up their second win of the season with a goal by Jerek Whiteman who collected a cross by Adrian Pena. Whiteman put the ball past Milltown goalkeeper Scott Cliff at 91 minutes.

There were few scoring opportunities in the game played at Lamport Stadium in Toronto’s west-end, a game which could have gone either way. It ended 1-0 for Portugal.

Lightning played havoc with the two remaining games in the CSL Friday night and one game will have to be replayed.

With Brantford Galaxy leading London City 1-0 on a goal by Drazen Govic after 24 minutes, referee Justin Tasev was forced by lightning to put the game on hold for a period of time. He eventually abandoned the game when it became clear the weather was deteriorating and the threat of lightning not likely to improve.

With the game ending in the first half, the teams will return to Cove Road soon for a rescheduled new game.

The FC Hamilton Croatia vs. Montreal Impact Academy game was also suspended for a period of time when lightning struck and was eventually abandoned at 67 minutes with the score 2-0 in favour of the home side.

League rules state a game stopped after half-time and unable to continue is considered abandoned as a completed game. The FC Hamilton Croatia vs. Montreal Academy game stopped at 67 minutes goes in the record book as a game completed with a final score 2-0 for FC Hamilton Croatia.

Defender John Hudson struck the first goal at 14 minutes for Hamilton Croatia and Aiden O’Keefe scored the second 11 minutes later.

There are three games scheduled for Sunday in the CSL.
