Brampton Lions continued their recovery from an early season winless streak with a 2-0 defeat of London City at Victoria Park in Brampton, while TFC Academy nipped North York Astros 1-0 at Esther Shiner Stadium, two games in the Canadian Soccer League Sunday afternoon.

Forward Blazej Skoczylas scored both goals for the Lions, he struck the first at 51 minutes following a hard fought scoreless first half, and scored the second five minutes later when he beat London goalkeeper Scott Mueller from the penalty spot following a hand ball inside the box.

Brampton jump two positions out of the cellar following the win, they now have a 2-7-1WLT record for 7 points, while London City are at 1-5-2 with five points.

Brampton were winless in seven games until a coaching change to the highly experienced Armando Costa brought the first win of the season, a 2-1 victory over St. Catharines Wolves on June 27, but this was followed by a 3-1 loss to FC Hamilton Croatia on Friday night. Sunday's decisive win sparked optimism that the club that things are changing quickly following a poor start to the season.

"Armando is certainly one of the top coaches in Canadian soccer and he relates to the players so well we are seeing a positive change after just these three games," said Phil Ionadi, VP and general manager of the Lions.

In an even contest at Esther Shiner Stadium, but a goal by forward Nicholas Lindsay at 39 minutes turned out to be enough to secure the win for TFC Academy. Lindsay's glancing header from a cross to the six yard line beat Astros’ goalkeeper Nelson Zamora and the goal stood through to the final whistle.

Defender Alex Kowalit of North York was shown the red card by referee Matt Arduini at the 85th minute mark for violent conduct.

TFC Academy improve to 5-3-2 for 17 points in the standings, while the Astros are now at 4-3-2 following a split weekend which brought a 3-0 win on Friday followed by Sunday's 1-0 defeat.
