GALAXY WIN SUNDAY, SERBIAN EAGLES TIE WITH SHOOTERS..... Two games washed out
2010-08-15

Weather played havoc with games in the CSL Sunday, with games postponed or abandoned, while in two games that were played, York Regions Shooters and Serbian White Eagles battled to a 1-1 tie and Brantford Galaxy defeated the Astros 4-1.

It was the York Region Shooters vs. Serbian White Eagles game played at Maple that attracted most attention with both teams at the top of the standings and Serbian Eagles struck first with a goal by Stephan Vukovic after 30 minutes for a 1-0 lead at half time.

Forward Jason De Thomasis tied the game for the home side two minutes after the interval, he drove a low shot from 20 yards to beat Eagles' goalkeeper Milos Kocic and the score held up to the final whistle for a 1-1 tie.

Serbian White Eagles stay on top of the standing as a result of the tie, they have a 9-1-4 WLT record for 31 points, two in front of the Shooters with a 8-3-5 for 29 points record.

Brantford Galaxy took control of their home game against North York Astros at Lions Park in Brantford and it was Ranko Golijanin who led the way scoring the first two goals at 13 and 45 minutes for a 2-0 lead at the interval. It was Golijanin's 6th and 7th of the season and Miodrag Andvelkovic played a part in both goals.

Kyle Grootenboer came off the bench to make it 3-0 for the Galaxy at 46 minutes and at 67 minutes Astros' midfielder Erik Gregore reduced the lead to 3-1.

Brantford midfielder Mark Reilly made it 4-1 for the home side at 88 minutes, which turned out to be the final score.

Brantford Galaxy improve their position in the standings with a 6-5-3 record for 21 points, while North York suffered their eighth loss since their 3-0 victory at London on July 2 and are stalled at 4-10-2 for 14 points.

Toronto Croatia's prolific Tihomir Maletic scored his second goal in two games over the weekend, both were early strikes and scored in games that failed to play into the second half. Sunday's game against TFC Academy at Centennial Stadium was abandoned at 38 minutes due to lightening, while Friday's game was abandoned at half-time. The goals were Maletic's 10th and 11th of the season. Sunday's game will be replayed, not having completed the first half in keeping with CSL rules, while the first game is the subject of a disciplinary hearing, following which a decision will be made about the game.

The fourth game to be played on Sunday, FC Hamilton Croatia vs. Milltown FC, was postponed late Sunday afternoon following a thunderstorm at Brian Timmis Stadium that left part of the ground under water. The game will be rescheduled.

There is one midweek game this coming week with St. Catharines Wolves at home to Milltown FC on Wednesday, an 8 pm kickoff at Club Roma in St. Catharines.
