SERBIAN EAGLES HELD SCORELESS BY PORTUGAL FC.....race for the top gets tighter
2010-09-25

Serbian White Eagles and Portugal FC fought to a scoreless tie at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke, the only game played in the CSL Friday night, and the result kept both clubs in an even tighter race for the CSL league title.

Only four points separate 6 teams at the top of the standings, a race that was expected to see Serbian White Eagles well clear at the top at this juncture of the 2010 campaign. But last year's CSL championship finalist has stalled remarkably since building up a 12-game undefeated streak which included nine wins when the team defeated St. Catharines Wolves 4-0 on August 11.

Serbian White Eagles have failed to win since, which means just six points have been earned in the last eight games and with just three games remaining in their regular season, Serbian Eagles are still in with a chance of winning the title they are surrounded by teams heading into ferocious fight to capture the top spot.

Portugal FC have fared better in the latter stages, but with just one game remaining in the schedule they will fall short in their title bid. The Toronto west-end team with such consistency for some weeks now should fare well in the playoffs.

It was a goalkeepers' dual at Centennial Stadium on Friday, with Mike Silva busy and impressive in the Portugal goal and Milos Kocic was similarly outstanding for Serbian Eagles.

The best opportunities during the game came from Eagles' midfielder Andre Orlando who appeared to have the game won at 65 minutes until Silva made the great save he did and Jarek Whiteman, coming off a game-winning hat-trick on September 19, came closest to finding the net for Portugal at 92 minutes, his low drive avoiding the diving Kocic to skip inches wide of the left post.

Serbian White Eagles have a 9-3-9 WLT record for 36 points, while Portugal FC are at 10-8-5 for 35 points.
