2010-09-26

A late goal be Hamilton's Adam Leggett was the turning point

FC Hamilton Croatia earned a berth in the playoffs with a 2-0 victory over Toronto Croatia at Centennial Stadium Sunday night, while in one other game in the CSL, Brantford Galaxy and Brampton Lions fought to a 1-1 tie at Lions Park in Brantford.

A goal by Hamilton Croatia midfielder Adam Leggett at 75 minutes gave the Hamilton team the lead they were looking for in an attempt to secure the three points. A drive from 15 yards found the net out of reach of Toronto Croatia's Sandi Matika and with time running out at the 95th minute mark and Matika out of his goal in an attempt to assist in an equalizer, Aiden O'Keefe scored with a shot from 55 yards to give the visitors the victory 2-0 victory.

The win gives FC Hamilton Croatia an improved 11-6-5 WLT record for 38 points, now tied for third place with TFC Academy in the standings and two regular season games remaining.

Toronto Croatia are still attempting to secure a playoff berth, they have a 7-6-7 record for 28 points, they are in 8th position in the table and have four games still to play.

With both teams needing wins in their bid for a playoff berth, the 1-1 tie did little except change the playoff scenario so that four teams (Brantford Galaxy, Toronto Croatia, Montreal Impact Academy and Brampton Lions) are now seeking a place in the two remaining playoff berths available.

Brampton midfielder Andy Garcia put his side in the lead at 21 minutes with a shot from 10 yards that beat Galaxy goalkeeper Ante Domjanovic and seven minutes later Nenad Begovic tied the game for the Galaxy, he beat Lions' goalkeeper Roy Blanche with a free kick from 20 yards that entered the top right corner of the net.

Brantford Galaxy are at 9-8-5 for 32 points and in 7th position, while Brampton Lions are facing a difficult challenge to enter the top eight with their 7-9-6 record for 27 points, they sit 10th in the standings and have two games remaining in the regular season schedule.

Milltown FC, York Region Shooters, TFC Academy, FC Hamilton Croatia, Serbian White Eagles and Portugal FC all have playoff berths following Sunday's games.

There are two midweek games coming up, with London City visiting Centennial Stadium for a game with Toronto Croatia on Tuesday, and on Wednesday, Serbian White Eagles at at home in Centennial Stadium for the visit of St. Catharines Wolves.
