PLAYOFFS BEGIN ON TUESDAY.....First leg quarterfinals lead to CSL Championship Final October 31
2010-10-09

The CSL made two announcements Saturday concerning the playoff schedule which begins with quarterfinals games on Tuesday and one game from the regular season postponed twice in recent weeks which was still outstanding.

It's five months to the day when 13 teams kicked off the 2010 CSL season and it will end on Sunday, October 31 when the CSL Championship Final will be played at Centennial Stadium in Toronto.

Eight teams have qualified for the playoffs and they will begin a 2-game quarterfinal home and away series on Tuesday, leading to the semifinals, then the final on October 31.

The eight teams are, in order of their positions at the end of the regular season: York Region Shooters, Serbian White Eagles, FC Hamilton Croatia, Milltown FC, Portugal FC, TFC Academy, Brantford Galaxy and Toronto Croatia.

While the regular season games ended on Friday, there was one game still outstanding before the 7th and 8th playoff berths could be decided and CSL commissioner Domenic Di Gironimo ruled today that the twice-postponed game will not be played. Instead, the Toronto Croatia vs. London City game is placed in default and awarded to London City by a 2-0 score as prescribed in league rules. The decision means Toronto Croatia will occupy the eighth playoff berth, with Brantford Galaxy in seventh and the quarterfinals schedule reflects those positions.

In announcing his decision, the commissioner explained Saturday that efforts have been made to play the game, including two attempts at Toronto Croatia's home ground that ended up being cancelled shortly before the kickoff. A fault in the playing surface at Toronto Croatia's home ground accounted for one postponement. "The match has already been scheduled twice, and both cancellations could have been avoided with better protocol prior to the match game times, thus the home team was penalized," said Di Gironimo.
