May 30, 2010 W-League--Toronto Lady Lynx vs Rochester Ravens (from Rochester Ravens press release)

Ravens Earn a Tie in the Final Minute
Kuss scores with 30 seconds remaining

Toronto, ON, 05/30/10 - The Rochester Ravens tied the Toronto Lady Lynx in their second game of the season, 1-1, at Oshawa Civic Stadium in Toronto. The Ravens were down 1-0 after 15 minutes but kept competing and earning scoring chances. That determination and constant pressure resulted in the Ravens scoring a goal with 30 seconds remaining in the game.

The tying goal was caused by a scramble in the box after a cross from Brooke Barbuto. Jessica Shufelt was able to get a shot off from the cross and the scramble then ensued. Chelsea Kuss found the ball and put it in the back of the net. The goal lifted the Ravens to their first point of the season.

"The game today showed that our team has a lot of fight in them and I was very pleased with the overall body of work," says Head Coach Mark Howlett. "It is exciting to watch a team with as much drive and competitiveness as our team. They never let down."

The Toronto Lady Lynx, a team with a 6-4-4 record last year, was playing the Ravens for their first home game of the season and the first time since easily defeating the Ravens last year, 7-0. They will get their chance to avenge the Ravens' comeback when the two teams play at Marina Auto Stadium in Rochester on June 13th.

"Toronto will be a familiar opponent for us this year because we play them three times," stated Howlett. "Each game is going to be a battle and I am sure they will come out even stronger next game because of the way this game ended. We need to be ready."

The Ravens' next game is at Ottawa on June 5th at 3:00 PM. It will be played at Algonquin College Soccer Complex. The next home game is June 9th against the Hamilton Avalanche at Marina Auto Stadium. The game is at 7:00 PM and all individual tickets are $5.00. For additional information about the team you can contact Devin DePoint at 585-352-5300 or devin@dougmillersoccer.com.
