Insider's story of CPSL Metro Lions...
by Rocket Robin

I received a private e-mail message after last week's cut and paste story from The Mirror.

Hi Robin.

The Lions were forced by the CPSL to remove Glasman from any official
position with the club as a condition of having their franchise application
approved. For all intents and purposes, he was blackballed due to past
fiasco's with the Shooting Stars and the Hangar. The CPSL wanted nothing to
do with Glasman.

Glasman brought Tony Lafarerra in to put the team together. Anthony Ayo,
then president of the Lions, had brought the church on board. When Ayo was
replaced with McGill prior to the second home game, the association with the
church ended and any prospect of good crowds disappeared. To be honest, it
made no difference. I don't think the church had bought in anyway. The
first match had crap attendance and Ayo was president at the time. It was
all smoke and mirrors IMO.

BTW, both the Mirror story and Adamson's press releases were incorrect. The
Lions were not struggling and certainly not "lowly".
The club were three and three in regular season matches and were leading
Oshawa 1 nil in the cup. When McGill fired Tony L one half hour prior to
the away leg of the cup (effectively sabotaging the match), the Lions lost
and were out of the Cup.

Lafarerra deserved great credit for what he was able to do. He was brought
in very late, had been promised three to five African players and was
supposed to be the assistant behind an imaginary French coach from Lille.
When all of these things fell through, in three weeks he put a team together
out of the few unsigned players available and with what he was able to
pick-up or purchase from other clubs. He performed a miracle, had a team
with a four and three record for which he was then fired by McGill who
wanted to coach the team himself. The sad thing was that the team was just
starting to come together. It is my personal opinion that the club would
have done just as well, if not better, with Tony coaching the team.

There's more to it but that's all for now.

Thanks Robin. You can use, or not use, any of this info that you wish.
Just keep my name out of it.

All the best. It has always been good to run into you at the various parks.
I don't know if I'll be attending any matches next season. I'm sick to
death of local soccer from my experiences and while I'll never lose interest
in soccer, the CPSL and the Lynx have severely lessened my impetus to watch
matches around town.

Take care.
