London City made a game of it but a second-half rally fell
short as they ended their Canadian Professional Soccer League season with a 5-2
loss to the Montreal Dynamites before a crowd of about 500 in Tillsonburg
yesterday.
"The people of Tillsonburg got their money's worth," said manager
Harry Gauss.
Nasson Thedsmy and Santo Soriano Ramirez had given the
Dynamites a 2-0 halftime lead with goals in the 25th and 36th minutes and Khalid
Mensah made it 3-0 in the 61st when his indirect free kick inside the six-yard
box was deflected in.
City had been penalized for an illegal back pass to
their goalkeeper but stormed back with two goals in 10 minutes to close to
within a goal. Janko Stukic scored in the 63rd and Gentjan Buzali converted a
penalty in the 71st after Tyler Hemming was brought down.
Thedsmy added his
second in the 76th minute and Gerry Pean ended the scoring in the 88th as the
Dynamites improved to 11-4-3, clinching second in the East Division with one
game left.
City finished with a 2-10-7 record, last in the West, but Gauss
said there were still some positives to be taken.
"It was a very, very
progressive season," he said. "Some very good things came out of it. The young
guys improved dramatically from last year and it all bodes well for next year."
