London wins Open Canada Cup wild card match

London City handed Durham Flames a resounding 4-1 defeat in the wild card game of the Open Canada Cup played on City’s home ground of Cove Road Friday.

It was the first of four Open Canada Cup games this weekend to decide the cup winner in the final on Monday afternoon, a 3.45 pm kickoff.

London City move to the semi-finals and will meet a hot Kanata team, the only amateur team to survive from the original eight entered in May.

Jahmo Welch opened the scoring for the Flames at the 25th minute mark, but London replied with four goals, starting with a strike five minutes from the interval by Andrew Loague who took a perfect pass from Gentjan Dervishi.

Ermal Murataj scored his first of the season for London City, the goal coming five minutes after half-time and in a goalmouth scramble Loague scored his second of the night and fourth of season to make it 3-1 at the 59th minute mark.

Eris Tafaj made it 4-1 with his seventh of the season at the 74th mark and all but assure London City a berth in the semi-final.

London City will now meet a hot Kanata team on Sunday afternoon.
