The Metro Lions will be seeking their first win of the season when the Scarborough-based Canadian Professional Soccer League club hosts its home opener on Saturday.

The Lions will play the Etobicoke-based Toronto Supra. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Birchmount Stadium.

So far this season the Lions have a pair of ties to show for their efforts. The local club played to a scoreless draw against the Vaughan Sun Devils on June 6.

The Lions then settled for a 2-2 tie against the host North York Astros on Monday.

"I'm disappointed because I really thought we should have won that game," said Lions general manager Aldwyn McGill.

The Lions actually required a late goal in order to earn the tie but McGill feels his club should have put the game out of reach long before that.

He said his charges outchanced the Astros but failed to capitalize on various scoring opportunities from close in.

McGill was not thrilled at seeing his players pass the ball around seeking a perfect shot when they had what appeared to be decent scoring chances.

"I guess they're not hungry enough," he said of his players. "Or they're not aggressive enough. Or they're not selfish enough."

McGill is hoping that changes on Saturday and he hinted that some changes might be in order to shake up his troops.

Maxim Dorneval came off the Lions bench to net the equalizer on Monday.

McGill said the club might alter its starting lineup this weekend in an effort to get his squad onto a winning track.

"It's a big game for us," McGill said of Saturday's contest. "We have to win that one."

McGill is hoping the attendance will be boosted by the fact it is also the Caribbean Stars' Sports and Family Day at Birchmount Stadium on Saturday.

Besides the CPSL match, there will also be nine other youth contests at the stadium, beginning at noon. There will also be track races available for those as young as five and up to and including adults.

A steel band and youth dancers will also be part of the festivities.
