THUNDER DOWN 3-0 BUT WIN 4-3 TO TOP WESTERN CONFERENCE
Hamilton Thunder made a remarkable recovery after being 3-0 down in the second half to score four unanswered goals for a 4-3 win over London City at Brian Timmis Stadium, one of three games played on Sunday in the Canadian Professional Soccer League.
At about the same time late in the afternoon, Laval Dynamites atoned for a 4-3 loss on Saturday by defeating Metro Lions, 2-1, in a rough encounter at Birchmount Stadium in Scarborough, and in an evening game Brampton Hitmen hit Durham Flames, 3-2, to hand the Oshawa-based club its eighth league loss of the season.
London City opened the scoring at Brian Timmis Stadium on a goal at the 25th minute by Isa Eulku and Ashley McMillan made it 2-0 just before half time. Erik Elmauer put City 3-0 up 10 minutes after the interval and almost everyone in the stands considered the team from Southwestern Ontario assured of a victory.
But Stalin Cardenas put Hamilton in a winning mood with a goal after 69 minutes and there were two quick goals when Leo Laurito scored from the penalty spot at the 85th minute mark and Sergio De Luca two minutes later. Srjan Marcovic scored the winner for Hamilton in stoppage time. The 4-3 win puts Thunder on top of the Western Conference with a 3-0-3 WLT record for 12 points. London City are at 2-4-1 with seven points.
A goal by Masson Theosmy at the 90th minute mark, his second in as many days after scoring in a 4-3 lost cause with Vaughan Sun Devils on Saturday, proved to be the winner for Laval Dynamites in a 2-1 defeat of Metro Lions, a rough encounter that saw two Metro Lions' players ejected in the second half. Kit Selaidopoulos opened the scoring for Laval at the 18th minute mark, but Hayden Fitzwilliams tied the score at 1-1 for Lions just before the interval.Lions'Kareem Reynolds and Caswain Mason received red cards. The 2-1 Dynamites win improves the Quebec-based team to 3-3-0 for nine points and Metro Lions are at 1-2-2 for five points.
Phil Ionadi scored two goals for Brampton Hitmen to lead his team to their 3-2 win over Durham Flames at Victoria Park in Brampton Sunday night. Desmond Humphries opened the scoring for the Flames after 20 minutes but Ionadi made it 1-1 20 minutes later. Kurt Mella made it 2-1 for the Hitmen at the 72nd mark, Ionadi made it 3-1 four minutes later and David Mills scored for Durham at 81 minutes.
Brampton improve to 2-1-2 for eight points, while Durham Flames suffered their eighth league loss and occupy the cellar position in the Eastern Conference with a 1-8-0 for three points.
