THUNDER DOWNS OLYMPIANS 2-1

Forward Jason Crnic’s third goal of the season at the 81st minute mark proved to be a big one for Hamilton Thunder as the Steeltown squad defeated Mississauga Olympians, 2-1, at Ivor Wynne Stadium in Hamilton on Thursday.

The win maintained Thunder’s unbeaten run in league competition (there was an Open Canada Cup 4-3 loss to Vaughan Sun Devils on June 28) and extended Hamilton’s lead in the Western Conference to five points over second place St. Catharines Roma Wolves.

Following a close and hard fought first half leading to a scoreless tie at half-time, Kevin De Serpa put Hamilton in front on a penalty kick at the 55th minute mark and John Matas tied the game for Olympians three minutes later.

Goalkeepers Roberto Ferrari for Hamilton and Dino Perri for Olympians played a big part in keeping the score at 1-1 until Crnic struck the winner.

Hamilton improve to 4-0-3 WLT for 15 points while Mississauga stays at the foot of the Western Conference with a 1-3-2 record for five points.
