HITMEN FIVE POINTS CLEAR WITH 4-0 WIN
BRAMPTON--Sunday, August 10--Brampton Hitmen leaped five points clear of their nearest rivals at the top of the Western Conference following a 4-0 emphatic victory over North York Astros at Victoria Park in Brampton on Sunday night.
Vaughan Sun Devils and Laval Dynamites also triumphed in the Canadian Professional Soccer League on Sunday, Laval edging Metro Lions 2-1 and Vaughan Sun Devils continue to impress by picking up three important points on the winning side of a 5-4 ding-dong struggle against Durham Flames at the Civic Stadium in Oshawa.
Captain Phil Ionadi led the way for the Hitmen, scoring after 41 minutes, Kurt Mella struck the second four minutes later and following a 2-0 half-time score, Hugo Herrera scored twice at 52 minutes and 73 minutes to round off the 4-0 Brampton win.
Brampton are five points clear in the Western Conference with an impressive 6-1-3 WLT record for 21 points, while the Astros are at 3-6-2 for 11 points. Paul Daccoberc opened the scoring for Laval at the 76th minute mark, just five minutes after Lions’ Kevin Rickets was ejected for serious foul play.
Caswain Mason tied the game for Metro Lions after 87 minutes, but two minutes later Leo Collingo struck the all important winner for the Dynamites, a 2-1 final score.
Laval now has a 4-4-0 WLT record for 12 points in the Eastern Conference, while Metro Lions continue to have difficulty with their league competition and have just one win with a 1-6-3 record for six points.
There were goals galore at the Civic Stadium in Oshawa where Vaughan Sun Devils came out on top of a nine goal extravaganza, a 5-4 victory over struggling Durham Flames.
David Mills led the procession with the first goal of the game for the home side after just four minutes, Jahmo Welch made it 2-0 at 13 minutes, but Cameron Medwin (20 minutes) and Willy Giammarra (24 minutes) brought the Sun Devils level at 2-2.
Joey Todaro scored his first of two goals for Vaughan at the 31st minute mark, and Cameron Medwin scored his second two minutes later for a 4-2 Sun Devils lead.
David Mills hit his second for the Flames after 62 minutes to bring the score to 4-3, Jamal Jupiter tied the game at 4-4 for the Flames eight minutes later, but Todaro scored the all important winner for the Sun Devils six minutes from time, a 5-4 final score.
