HAMILTON THUNDER 3-1 OVER OLYMPIANS
Hamilton Thunder regained the runner-up position in the Western Conference of the standings with a 3-1 defeat of Mississauga Olympians at Brian Timmis Stadium, the only game played in the Canadian Professional Soccer League Thursday.
In the only game played on Wednesday night, it didn’t take long for St. Catharines Wolves to make amends for a heavy 5-0 loss to Toronto Supra just 48 hours earlier. The Garden City team came out on top of a hard fought contest to defeat London City, 3-2.
Mississauga Olympians took the lead with a strike at the 8th minute by John Matas, but just six minutes later Matthew O'Connor tied the score 1-1 for Thunder.
Stalin Cardenas put Hamilton ahead at the 65th minute mark and Peter Curic made sure of the win for Hamilton, scoring at the 73rd minute, a 3-1 final result.
In the game Wednesday at Club Roma, the teams fought to a scoreless tie in the first half and it wasn’t until the 73rd minute that Mark Mulholland put St. Catharines one-up and that score held until five minutes from the final whistle when Attila Salamon tied the game for London City.
The game was looking very much like a 1-1 tie, but three more goals were scored—two by the home side and one by London City for the 3-2 final score.
Carlo Arghitto made it 2-1 for St. Catharines at 86 minutes, Frank Del Priore made it 3-1 for Wolves at 88 minutes and Gentian Buzali struck for London City in added time.
The win moves St. Catharines into second place in the Western Conference with a 6-5-1 WLT record and 19 points, while London City are at 3-7-2 and 11 points.
