A-League preseason Toronto Lynx vs National Training Centre selects
by Rocket Robin

Result of the friendly between the A-League Toronto Lynx and the National Training Centre selects played Tuesday April 1st, 2003 at The Soccer Centre (indoor facility) in Vaughan at 7:30pm.

3 minutes...Lynx Ali Ngon GOAL...Lynx Sebastian Barclay rushes along left end line and rolls cross to Ngon who blasts low 7 yard shot into right corner of net past goalie Josh Wagenaai.

29 min...NTC Kevin Omokhua GOAL...NTC Carlo Rivas (the coach's son) takes freekick just inside the Lynx box on left side crossing it into centre where Omokhua leaps up and snaps 7 yard header into middle of net beyond goalie Theo Zagar.

42 min...Lynx Ali Ngon GOAL...Lynx Sebastian Barclay tips high ball forward to charging Ngon who knocks it down (with hand?) and blasts low 12 yard shot under goalie in center of net.

Final Score:....Toronto Lynx....2...National Training Centre selects...1....

The game was actually 80 minutes long including a three minute break at the 23 minute mark and seven minutes at the 53 minute mark. I suppose the teams only had facility rental until 9:00pm.

I asked Lynx coach Peter Pinizzotto for a list of his forty man roster. What? he's already cut 15 players and then there are some new players just brought in.

Only position really decided on appears to be goalie with Theo Zagar starting with backup James Krieger just like last year.

About five Lynx players were given a rest tonight. Defender Adrian Serioux was a starter along with new players "Jan" from Holland, and Adhill.
midfielders O'Brien, returning Shawn Faria, newcomer Daniel Takkee, and Bonti from Uruguay. Nikki Vignjevic another midfielder and the combination of Sebastian Barclay from Argentina and CDN national team player Ali Ngon at forwards. These forwards worked well together but could have had at least three more goals.

Subs: returning Elvis Thomas, David Diplacido, and Julio Penalillo, and newcomers--CPSLers Sam Borgh and Ryan Thompson. Michael Ciprini from York University and Nick Brelinski from Canada's Under 19, Jarek Radzinski (yes the brother of that Cdn international/Everton star), and Ronaldo who I didn't hear if he had a second name. A sub from Japan named Seki came into the game and within 15 seconds had a ball kicked right in his face and had to be subbed off again. Midfielder Guiliano Oliviero who played for the Montreal Impact last year is soon to sign with the Lynx.

The Lynx have numbers on their gray sweatshirts this season for these warm up games but they're still mostly numbers running around for me this early in the season. Also hard to keep up with the NTC frequent substitutions so I didn't bother tracking the near misses. Both starting goalies got a work out and had to be sharp or the score would have been much higher for both teams.
