Attendance was about 50 on this warm overcast evening. This is the Astros only home game on a Saturday this year and was scheduled for the traveling Border Stars. It didn't add any to attendance. A minor league soccer game played just before this game had about 150 fans (parents/family members) cheering their 13 year old sons but they didn't stay for this game.
Alan Placek earned the shutout for the Border Stars making only two important saves and corralling some crosses from the wings. The Astros didn't apply much pressure and had few shots on net. The Border Stars seemed to always have enough defenders on the edge of their box to block or prevent most of the shots. The Astros were caught time after time short at the back after the Border Stars first goal as they pressed for a goal. Border Stars could have doubled the score if they'd been more accurate in their shooting. The game play was more even in the first half.
Border Stars only brought two substitutes and they play at this venue tomorrow against Vaughan Shooters who also share this home field. Shooters officials were scouting this game as was the Hamilton Thunder owner as Windsor could be a playoff opponent of them. This was a pretty tame game with referee Gord Arrowsmith warning some players early about infractions and then not giving out one card the whole game.
