Final Score:..........Vaughan Shooters........2..........Windsor Border Stars.........2.........

Attendance was about 70 on this warm humid night.

The biggest story of this game was that there were no game officials before the start of the game. I didn't notice who were supposed to be the officials earlier today when I checked the Soccer On-Line web site as details of this game had been dropped. The officials for the game earlier today in Brampton had been shuffled around with only one official listed actually being there but replacements were in place. A few frantic phone calls and it was settled on getting three guys who were finishing up refereeing an indoor game under the roof of The Ontario Soccer Centre. Ironically I drove one of the assistant referee's from the Brampton game inside the Toronto city limits so he could catch the bus home a lot easier. He was the one who filled me in on the officials’ changes at that game. Shooters officials kept the crowd informed of the delay and were quite honest with the reasons.

The game was close checking with plenty of rough play. Neither team liked the calls of referee Ricardo Garcia and the father/son referee's assistants Tony and Paolo Cirillo offside calls. However if both teams complained, it worked out to be an evenly called game. The 51 minute Yellow cards didn't cut down on the language so it felt like a double bill concert of 1980s comedians Eddie Murphy and Andrew Dice Clay.

Shooters Cameron Medwin took most of the cornerkicks and Joey Todaro handled the freekicks. Border Stars goalie Alan Placek controlled most of these shots into the box no matter how many players were crowding around. Roberto Scala had some crucial saves to make when the Shooters got caught short at the back.

Border Stars played well being a man down. They'd only brought two subs for this game yet they were different players than the two subs they had for yesterday's game at this field against North York Astros. One sub they needed to make was when their midfielder Daniel Zalenski and Shooters goalie Roberto Scala crashed together on the edge of the box going for a high ball. Zalenski was subbed with JJ Dowhan, one of the players not in yesterday's lineup.

The delay was really rough on the Border Stars because they were faced with a three hour return trip. Defender/assistant coach Scott Patriquin told us before the game he is a school teacher and he has to wake up at 6:00am to get ready for his day. He outlined his career playing for London City and even back to his Winnipeg Fury days and outlined his reasoning that these fiascos are a reason why this league doesn't attract the best available players.

The Border Stars getting a tie out of this game have guaranteed they finish second and will host a playoff game in Michigan because the Windsor Stadium won't be available. Actually most important is this game was eventually played because to expect the team would have to come back in the middle of the week to play would have been unthinkable. Shooters had pounded this team in Michigan 5-1 last month when Border Stars again had a red card problem. Shooters would have liked to win because now they have more chance of being caught by Metro Lions for second place and will lose the chance to host that playoff showdown.
