Attendance was about 40 on this warm miserable drizzly night. There was a misty rain the entire game. This should be a pretty bad write up filling out the details for my web page after the season is over as I couldn't hold an umbrella, hold a notebook, write the moments down, and peer through binoculars to get some numbers of who took corner kicks.
City started out fast enough with these two early goals but the game evened out the longer things went on and City goalie Haidar Al-Sahibani had to be sharp to keep the shutout. The game ended at 11:00pm. That's quite a drive back to London and quite a few of these players have to work tomorrow.
Ex-Astros player Kadian Lecky was the fastest player on the field and got some good runs up the wing. Some Astros fans grumbled that he was given plenty of time to develop with their team but couldn't score. He has six goals this year. Paul Munster was pressing for the hat trick and rushed some poor percentage shots.
Referee Gord Arrowsmith kept the tempers in check. Both teams were looking for the fast break on turnovers as soon as the goalie made a stop, the goalie could clear the ball and set up a scoring chance for his team with forwards swarming around the defenders. The wet field meant balls could be kicked harder to the wing without as much risk of the ball rolling out of bounds so that set up some long rushes down the wing. Both teams suffered from their defense allowing forwards to rush through them. Many players were slipping around in their boots on the wet field despite the ground being 'field- turf'.
