Attendance was about 75 on this humid evening and that included about 20 players and officials from the Capital City Ambassadors cheering for the other Ottawa team.
St Anthony goalkeeper Angus Wong had to be sharp on making a few key saves. Lions troubles were they couldn't use their regular goalie Gregory Drakes because he was red carded late in Friday's wildcard game against London City. The goalie Amandeep Saini looked weak and shaky. That was really St Anthony's first good chance on goal when they scored. Saini was lucky not to be red carded when at the beginning of the second half he drifted just outside the box to catch a high 30 yard pop up by Allan Popazzi. Referee Mike Lambert only called a freekick. The referee had a good game in a very rough hard tackling ninety minutes.
The St Anthony team had many former CPSL club Ottawa Wizards players on their roster. Abraham Osman, Russel Shaw, Urbain Some, Allan Popazzi were alumni. Ambassadors goalie Sabrahima Traore was also a Wizards starter. Nice to see that Osman and Shaw would say 'hello' to me even though they aren't in the CPSL anymore so they must follow this Voyageurs board.
I asked CPSL president Vince Ursini if with two Ottawa teams making it to the semi-final whether they had any interest in joining the league but he rubbed his fingers in the 'money' gesture and saying that's what's keeping those teams away. These two teams and the in-limbo Montreal Dynamites and a few other Montreal teams could compose their own division.
