LAVAL HELD TO TIE BY ST. CATHARINES WOLVES, TORONTO CROATIA ENTER PLAYOFFS WITH 4-1 HOME VICTORY
Friday - September 16, 2005

Laval Dynamites were held to a scoreless tie by St. Catharines Wolves at the Bois-de-Boulogne Stadium Saturday, a hard fought game in continuous rain in which Laval had most of the play but failed to find the net on a number of occasions. The tie gives Les Dynamites a 9-5-3 WLT record for 30 points, good for third position in the Eastern Conference Standings. St. Catharines Wolves improve to 6-10-5 for 23 points, tied with Border Stars and Brampton Stallions, each with 23 points, also.

On Friday night, Toronto Croatia officially qualified for the playoffs with a 4-1 defeat of Brampton Stallions at Streetsville Memorial Park in Mississauga.

It was Brampton Stallions that opened the scoring with a goal by Hugo Herrera after just six minutes, but that lead was short-lived when just 60 seconds later Croatia defender Antonijo Zupan tied the score 1-1.

Edin Kalic put Toronto Croatia into the lead at the 40th minute mark, Caswain Mason increased the lead to 3-1 at 37 minutes and Leo Laurito rounded out the scoring to give the Mississauga-based home side a 4-1 lead and the victory.

The win officially puts the defending champions Toronto Croatia into the top three in the Eastern Conference standings and a berth in the CPSL Championship playoffs to bid for a repeat of last year's title win. Vaughan Shooters have already qualified, along with North York Astros, the Championship Weekend host team.

Croatia improved their record as a result of tonight's victory to 10-2-5 WLT for 35 points, second in the standings and trailing Vaughan Shooters by 4 points. Brampton Stallions are still fighting for a playoff berth and now have a 5-5-8 record for 23 points, good for fourth place in the Western Conference.

One other game scheduled Friday, the Durham Storm vs. London City clash was called off due to wet ground conditions.
