THUNDER BACK ON TOP, SHOOTERS AND SUPRA ALSO WIN WHILE ASTROS AND BORDER STARS TIE 1-1

Hamilton Thunder shutout Brampton Stallions, 2-0, to take over the lead in the Western Conference, while Vaughan Shooters strengthened their hold on the Eastern Conference with a 5-0 victory over Durham Storm, two of four games played in the Canadian Professional Soccer League Sunday.In the other two games, Toronto Supra handed Oakville Blue Devils a 3-0 setback and North York Astros fought to a 1-1 tie with Border Stars.

Kadian Lecky at 55 minutes and Ryan Thompson at 69 minutes were the goalscorers for Hamilton Thunder at Victoria Park in Brampton for the 2-0 final score following a scoreless first half. Hamilton now has a 9-4-6 WLT record for 33 points, that's three points ahead of Oakville Blue Devils (8-4-6) which suffered the 3-0 home defeat in the hands of Toronto Supra.

Michael DiLuca scored twice for Supra at Bronte Stadium in Oakville, at 15 and 26 minutes, while Edward Franjic scored a third just before the final whistle. Supra have a 5-6-7 record for 22 points, good for fourth place in the Eastern Conference.

Vaughan Shooters made short work of Durham Storm at The Soccer Centre, scoring five unanswered goals to increase there lead at the top of the Eastern Conference. Midfielder Cameron Medwin led the way with two goals at 49 and 69 minutes, Fitzroy Christie scored at 55 minutes, Luca Forno at 79 minutes and Dwayne Wright put the fifth goal past Storm goalkeeper Craig Williams at the 89th minute mark. Shooters now have an impressive 13-3-3 record for 42 points to lead second place Toronto Croatia by 7 points.

Durham Storm have a 1-14-1 record for four points at the foot of the Eastern Conference.

North York Astros held Border Stars to a 1-1 tie despite losing midfielder Juan Carlos Mongui to a second yellow card ejection at 34 minutes at Esther Shiner Stadium. Marcus Chorvat opened the scoring to put the border team one-up at the 40th minute mark, but Astros fought back in the second half to be rewarded with an equalizer by Dawid Antonczyk at 76 minutes, a 1-1 final score. Astros improve to a 6-10-3 record for 21 points, good for fifth position in the Eastern Conference.

The tie was a set-back for a Border Stars team looking for three points while embroiled in a 4-way tussle for the third playoff position in the Western Conference. Border Stars now have a 7-10-3 record for 24 points and third in the standings.
