SUPRA KEEP PLAYOFF HOPES ALIVE WITH VICTORY OVER HAMILTON, BRAMPTON LOSE TO ASTROS
Wednesday - September 28, 2005

Toronto Supra kept their playoff hopes alive with a 2-0 shutout of Hamilton Thunder, North York Astros put a damper on the playoff aspirations of Brampton Stallions with a 3-1 victory and a third game scheduled Thursday, the Toronto Croatia vs. Vaughan Shooters Eastern Conference showdown failed to materialize when the game was postponed due to ground conditions at Streetsville Memorial Park.

North York Astros forward Joseph Feljoo put his team in front with a goal after just three minutes at Victoria Park in Brampton and Feljoo scored a second following goals by team-mate Adeyinka Tijani at 55 minutes and Brampton's Kurt Mella at the 62nd minute mark for a 3-1 final score.

The result puts Brampton out of the playoff picture even if the team from just northwest of Toronto wins its last game against Border Stars at Windsor Stadium on Saturday night. A win by Brampton would give St. Catharines Wolves third spot and a playoff berth by virtue of having more regular season wins than Brampton. A win by Border Stars would give that team third place and the playoff berth. As a result of the win, North York Astros have a 8-10-3 WLT record and still fifth in the eastern standings a point behind Toronto Supra and still a chance for third spot with that team and Laval. Brampton have a 5-8-8 record for 23 points.

Two second half goals by Michael DiLuca gave Toronto Supra a crucial 2-0 win over Hamilton Thunder to keep the Toronto west-end team's playoff hopes alive in a game played at Brockton Stadium. DiLuca scored at 53 and 68 minutes and Supra must now meet Laval Dyanamites on Saturday in a game that will may well decide the last eastern playoff berth. Supra's record is now 7-6-7 for 28 points, while Hamilton have a 9-5-7 record for 34 points, still tied on points with top place Oakville Blue Devils and their superior goal average.

The Toronto Croatia vs. Vaughan Shooters game scheduled for Streetsville Memorial Park in Mississauga was postponed due to ground conditions.
