CODDINGTON HITS FOUR IN 7-1 OAKVILLE WIN

Domico Coddington, a 21-year-old midfielder from Durham Region struck four times for Oakville Blue Devils in a 7-1 trouncing of Brampton Stallions at Bronte Stadium in Oakville, the only game played in the Canadian Professional Soccer League Thursday night.

The win moved the Blue Devils on top of the Western Conference for the first time since London City jumped on top from the season kickoff the third week of May.

Oakville were virtually assured of the win in the first half hour, leading 3-0 after 28 minutes and 4-0 after 33 minutes.

Gabriel Pop, who scored the CPSL All-Star lone goal in the 4-1 Glasgow Rangers win last Saturday, opened the scoring for Oakville at the 11th minute mark, Coddington made it 2-0 two minutes later and 3-0 at the 28th minute mark. Oakville forward Phil Ionadi made it 4-0 on a penalty kick at 33 minutes, Brampton’s Kevin McIntosh reduced the lead to 4-1at 45 minutes and Pop scored his second and Oakville’s 5th for a 5-1 lead at the 58th minute mark. Coddington made it 6-1 at 75 minutes and 7-1 at the 80th minute mark.

Two Brampton players were red carded during the game. Defender Maximiliano Andrade was ejected after receiving a second caution and was then involved in an incident with the referee, and Stallions’ goalkeeper Roy Blanche was ejected for violent conduct.

Oakville Blue Devils remain unbeaten with a 5-0-1 WLT record for 16 points and top position in the west, London City, at home to North York Astros Friday are now in second position with 15 points and Hamilton third with 14.

Brampton Stallions are fourth in the Western Conference following Thursday’s game with a 2-3-2 record for 8 points.
