Go four points clear in race for Western Conference

Oakville Blue Devils remained the only unbeaten team in the Canadian Professional Soccer League following a 1-0 victory over St. Catharines Wolves in a hard-fought squeaker at Club Roma Wednesday night.

Following a scoreless first half in which both teams had opportunities to go ahead, Blue Devils’ captain Phil Ionadi beat St. Catharines ‘keeper Caudio Perri just two minutes into the second half to score what turned out to be the winner.

Yellow cards were handed out to both teams in the physical encounter that saw two go to Oakville’s Marko Janjicek who was ejected at the 75th minute mark.

Oakville go four points clear in the Western Conference with a 6-0-1 WLT record for 19 points, with London City and Hamilton Thunder tied for second spot at 15 apiece.

St. Catharines continue to struggle with their fifth defeat and a record of 2-5-1 for seven points in fifth position in the west.
