SHOOTERS ON TOP FOLLOWING 2-0 WIN, STALLIONS BLANK DURHAM, 4-0, WHILE LONDON, HAMILTON TIE 1-1
Saturday - August 6, 2005

Vaughan Shooters jumped to the top of the Eastern Conference standings following a 2-0 victory over North York Astros in a rare visit to the York Region community of Maple, one of three games Friday at the beginning of a busy weekend in the Canadian Professional Soccer League.

In other games, Brampton Stallions handed Durham Storm their ninth loss of the season, a 4-0 result at the Civic Stadium in Oshawa and in a game vital to the Western Conference race, London City were held to a 1-1 tie by Hamilton Thunder at the Cove in London.

Stuart Black put Vaughan Shooters in the right direction with a goal at the 39th minute and a collision in the Astros' penalty area at 59 minutes resulted in referee Vito Curalli awarding a penalty to the home side. Vaughan's Darryl Gomez made no mistake from the spot for a 2-0 lead following an incident in which Sherwin Ramsey, the North York goalkeeper, who impeded Vaughan's Desmond Humphrey resulting in the spot kick, was injured on the play. He was replaced by Arthur Zaslavski.

Adam Pachso and Alex Morrisson each scored twice for Brampton Stallions in their decisive 4-0 win over Durham Storm, a team depleted by 11 players sidelined with injuries and suspensions. Pachso scored at 2 minutes and at the 60th minute mark, while Morrisson struck at 7 minutes and the 26th minute mark.

Abukari Adams put London City in the lead at the 32nd minute mark in a hard fought game in London, but Hamilton drew level 68 minutes on a goal by former London City forward Kadian Lecky.

Vaughan Shooters go on top of the Eastern Conference by virtue of a superior goal average to go with their 6-2-3 WLT record for 21 points, while Toronto Croatia drop to second.

Hamilton Thunder remain second in the Western Conference with a 5-2-5 record for 20 points following Friday's tie and London City remain in third position with a 5-6-2 record for 17 points.

North York Astros are in 5th place in the east--they have 10 points, while Durham Storm remain at the foot of the same table with four points.
