HAMILTON THUNDER BEST IN CLOSE ENCOUNTER AT BRIAN TIMMIS THURSDAY
Thursday - August 11, 2005

Hamilton Thunder strengthened their hold on second place in the Western Conference with a 1-0 victory over North York Astros at Brian Timmis Stadium, the lone game in the Canadian Professional Soccer League Thursday.

An early goal was enough to secure three points and it was scored following a well-played effort by defender Adrian Ramos who worked the ball through the midfield to connect with midfielder Ricky Marquez who put the ball past Astros' Russian-born goalkeeper Arthur Zaslavski.

It was an even contest after that with returning midfielder Matthew O'Connor prominent for Hamilton and North York had two goalscoring opportunities late in the game when Hamilton goalkeeper Roberto Ferrari was called upon to make saves.

The win improves Hamilton to a 6-2-5 WLT record for 23 points, just a single point behind Western Conference leaders Oakville Blue Devils. North York Astros suffered their ninth loss for a 4-9-0 record, good for 12 points and fifth in the east.
