BORDER STARS DOWN HAMILTON THUNDER 3-1 AT WINDSOR STADIUM
Saturday - August 20, 2005

Border Stars picked up a much-needed victory with a 3-1 defeat of Hamilton Thunder at Windsor Stadium in the only game played in the Canadian Professional Soccer League Saturday.

The border team have struggled with just three wins and nine defeats going into Saturday's game and their bottom of the league position is a contrast from the third place position in the 2004 inaugural year standings and Open Canada Cup success.

Stars' midfielder Dave Dwaihy opened the scoring at the 12th minute mark and Aaron Byrd scored a second at 37 minutes for a 2-0 score at half-time.Byrd was fouled in the penalty area one minute after the interval and he took the penalty kick and found the net for a 3-0 Border Stars lead at 46 minutes.

Hamilton's lone goal was scored by Kadian Lecky who beat Anthony Santilli in the Border Stars goal at 66 minutes for a 3-1 final result.

Border Stars improve to 4-9-1 WLT for 13 points but remain at the foot of the Western Conference, while Hamilton Thunder are now at 6-3-7 for 25 points, second to Oakville Blue Devils on goal average.

One other game scheduled for Saturday was postponed. The Toronto Supra vs. Laval Dynamites game was called off due to wet conditions at Brockton Stadium, but with a gradual improvement in the weather in the region Saturday, all four games scheduled in the Canadian Professional Soccer League Sunday are on schedule.
