SHOOTERS TAKE OVER IN THE EASTERN CONFERENCE
Wednesday - August 31, 2005

Vaughan Shooters took over the top spot in the Eastern Conference following a 2-1 victory over St. Catharines Wolves in the only game played in the Canadian Professional Soccer League Wednesday.

Both teams needed the entire three points with the Garden City team mounting a bid for the third and final playoff position in the Western Conference, while Shooters want to settle for no less in their bid to win the Eastern Conference.

Cameron Medwin opened the scoring for Vaughan at the 31st minute mark and forward Jason De Thomasis scored his 10th of the season to make it 2-0 for the York Region side two minutes into the second half.

St. Catharines fought to get on level terms and the effort paid off with a goal by Carlo Arghittu at the 64th minute mark. But it was not enough and the game ended 2-1.

It was the 10th win of the league campaign for Vaughan Shooters who now have an impressive 10-3-3 WLT record for 33 points to go on top of second place Toronto Croatia with 31 points. St. Catharines are in fifth place in the west with a 5-8-3 record and 18 points.
