VAUGHAN SHOOTERS, HAMILTON THUNDER SCORE SATURDAY VICTORIES

Vaughan Shooters and Hamilton Thunder strengthened their hold on first place in their respective conferences with wins in the Canadian Professional Soccer League Saturday.

Vaughan Shooters scored a narrow but important 1-0 over Border Stars at Auburn Hills, Michigan, while Hamilton Thunder scored a last minute winner to defeat Laval Dynamites 3-2 at a relocated game played at The Soccer Centre in Vaughan.

Midfielder Luca Forno struck the important goal for Shooters at the 18th minute mark and the score held up to the final whistle. Vaughan Shooters improve to a 11-3-3 WLT record, good for 36 points to lead by four points over Toronto Croatia at the top of the Eastern Conference.

Border Stars have a 6-10-2 record for 20 points in third position in the Western Conference.

Forward Ryan Thompson opened the scoring for Hamilton Thunder after just three minutes and Nasson Theosmy tied the game after 17 minutes for Les Dynamites. The scoring was repeated when Thompson scored his second at 43 minutes for a 2-1 Hamilton lead at half-time and Theosmy tied the game again with a goal at the 73rd minute mark.

Hamilton's Florian Kohler scored the winner at 90 minutes for a 3-2 final result which gives the Steeltown team a four-point lead at the top of the Western Conference. They have a 8-3-6 record for 30 points with Oakville Blue Devils in second spot at 26 points.

Laval Dynamites are in third position in the east with 29 points from a 9-4-2 record.
