Seven Lady Lynx Players Selected For U20 Camp!

Wednesday, May 25, 2005 (TORONTO, ON) - An awesome number of seven Toronto Lady Lynx players have been selected to attend the Canadian Soccer Association's U20 National Team training camp and international exhibition matches in Houston, Texas from May 26th to June 4th. The team will play exhibition matches on Monday, May 30th versus the United States, Tuesday, May 31st versus the US Youth Soccer Region II, Thursday, June 2nd versus Japan and Friday, June 3rd versus US Youth Soccer Region I. Representing the Lynx at the camp will be Amanda Cicchini of Oakville, Deana Everrett of Oakville, Nicole Mailloux of Mississauga, Natalie Martineau of Oakville, Nicole Mercer of Hamilton, Loredana Riverso of Mississauga and Robin Rushton of Scarborough. Nicole Hartrell, the Chief Operating Officer of the Toronto Lady Lynx proudly states, "We are very proud to have such outstanding players on our roster this season and above all, we are grateful for the many wonderful youth coaches in the Ontario system of play that has produced such fine talent!"

Lady Lynx Head Coach, Brett Mosen, added, "The squad has only been together for a short period of time, so as a coach you don't want to see player leaving for extended periods of time and missing games. However, any time a player has an opportunity to represent their country, it's an honour tha cannot be passed up. I 'm sure our players will offer a good representation of the Toronto Lady Lynx."

LADY LYNX TO PLAY FIRST ROAD MATCH ON SATURDAY

The national team call ups this weekend will leave the Lady Lynx short-handed for their first ever road match, this Saturday, May 28th when they take on the Sudbury Canadians at 7:30pm at Lilly Creek Sports Complex since Cambrian College is still under repair. Despite the missing players, the Lady Lynx roster will still include some very impressive players, including leading scorer, Kim Warner, whose speed and nose for goal have provided some exciting action for Lady Lynx fans this season. Goalkeeper, Stacey Van Boxmeer has also been impressive thus far this year, conceding only 1 goal in 2 matches.

The match will be the first of 3 meetings between the teams this season in what will surely develop into a strong Canadian rivalry. The Sudbury Canadians are entering their second season in the W-League after compiling a 1-13-0 record last season. This year, Sudbury kicked off their season with a 1-0 loss at home to the Vermont Lady Voltage.

"It will be interesting to see how the players react to life on the road as travel often disrupts a player's preparation for a game," explained Mosen. "We have proven to ourselves that we can play well at home, but to be a serious challenger for a place in the playoffs, we have to win games on the road as well. There are no easy games in this league and I do not see Sudbury being any different."

LYNX WELCOME PUERTO RICO FOR FIESTA LATINA

While the Lady Lynx are in Sudbury, the Toronto Lynx will play host to Puerto Rico Islanders at Centennial Park Stadium this Saturday, May 28th with kick off at 7:30pm for the annual Fiesta Latina celebration presented by media partner Torontohispano.com. The match will feature dynamic entertainment showcasing the Latin culture in the GTA, including performances by Tango De Oro, renowned professional tango dancers, Huairapungo Ecuadorian dance group and a guest appearance by Miss Hispanidad, Fanny Samaniego, to perform the ceremonial kickoff.

On the field, the Lynx are still searching for their first win of the season after beginning the year 0-5-2. The match will feature the debuts of defender Abraham Francois and striker, Sita-Taty Matondo, who were acquired last week from Montreal in exchange for Ali Gerba. Francois should see action as defender since Josue Mayard will miss the match through suspension. The Islanders are fielding a much stronger team this season compared to their inaugural roster that finished the 2004 season at 5-17-6, including 3 losses to Toronto. Having already earned two victories over perennial title contenders, the Rochester Raging Rhinos and a draw against the defending USL First Division Champion, Montreal Impact, the Islanders have begun the season at 2-2-1 and currently hold the 6th and final playoff spot in the USL First Division. Head Coach, Hugo Maradonna, brother of Argentine legend Diego, has opted for a team with more USL experience this season which includes former Rhinos, Noah Delgado and Corey Woolfolk who are both very dangerous offensive players.
