BORDER STARS, CROATIA WIN SATURDAY
Saturday - August 19, 2006
Boris Maric hat-trick

Toronto Croatia completed back-to-back weekend wins with a 4-1 defeat of Laval Dynamites and Windsor Border Stars were full marks for a 3-0 shutout victory over a depleted Brampton Stallions in two games played in the Canadian Soccer League Saturday night.

Toronto Croatia took top position in the International Division following their win over Laval and the victory followed a 6-0 win over London City on Friday night. Forward Boris Maric was outstanding and scored a hat-trick in the 4-1 victory, finding the net at 7, 34 and 52 minutes, while Tom Granic struck the fourth Croatia goal at 78 minutes. Laval’s lone goal was scored by forward Vladimir Edouard at the 50th minute mark.

Toronto Croatia continue to keep pace in the International Division and move on top with an impressive 10-1-4 WLT record for 34 points, one point ahead of Serbian White Eagles and their 11 wins from as many games. Eagles play Italia Shooters at The Soccer Centre Sunday, while Toronto Croatia are idle until September 7 when they play the first of three games against Serbian White Eagles.

Border Stars looked strong in their defeat of Brampton Stallions at the University of Windsor, the Stallions having last week released goalscorer Andre Andrade, together with midfielders Clayson Queiroz and Helio Paes Pereira Junior to play in Peru. Rookie forward Emilio Giorgi struck for Windsor at the 49th minute mark following a scoreless tie at halftime and following a determined effort in the later stages of the second half, Radek Papiez scored two goals at the 62nd minute mark and five minutes later for the border team to make the score 3-0.

Windsor improves to a 5-4-5 WLT record for 20 points and third place in the National Division, while the Stallions have stalled at 5-6-2 for 17 points.
