OPEN CANADA CUP, PLAYOFF RACE
Sunday - August 27, 2006
Busy September

September is the defining month that brings the Open Canada Cup with the finals during the Labour Day weekend, it tells us which teams will make the playoffs and this year it will bring together a three-game series of league games that should decide which of the top teams, Serbian White Eagles or Toronto Croatia, will capture the inaugural International Conference.

The CSL office receives a lot of requests about the three games scheduled at the back end of the season. The original venue set for Sunday, August 27 at the newly-renovated Birchmount Stadium, has been switched to Lamport Stadium in Toronto for Thursday, September 7 at 7.30 pm.

The second game is tentatively arranged for Brian Timmis Stadium in Hamilton on Monday, September 11 at 8 pm and the third game is confirmed for Lamport Stadium on Sunday, September 24 at 7 pm.

Toronto Lynx of the USL First Division are favoured to win the Open Canada Cup and the Labour Day weekend will kick off with a semifinal on Friday, September 1. There will be a wild card game on Saturday and the second semifinal on Sunday. The Open Canada Cup Final is set for Labour Day Monday. Other surviving teams are the Brampton Stallions and London City of the CSL, and amateur teams Ottawa St. Anthony Italia (Ottawa Carleton Soccer League) and AEK London (Western Ontario Soccer League).

Eight of the 12 CSL teams will qualify for the playoffs. The top three teams in each conference are guaranteed a berth and the remaining two spots will go to the next two with the highest points total, irrespective of the conference in which they play. Playoffs will take place the first week of October with the CSL Championship Final on Thanksgiving Day, Monday, October 9.
