CSL ACTION FRIDAY NIGHT
Friday - September 8, 2006
Eagles, Croatia scoreless

Perhaps it was the intensity of the previous night when Toronto Croatia shutdown Serbian White Eagles 3-0 at Lamport Stadium, but both teams failed to find the net when they returned to action in the two games played in the Canadian Soccer League Friday night.

Serbian White Eagles were held to a scoreless tie by Toronto Supra Portuguese at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke and Toronto Croatia were held to the same result by Italia Shooters at Memorial Park in the Streetsville district of Mississauga.

Croatia and Italia fought mostly in the midfield on Friday night with both goalkeepers, George Azcurra for Croatia and Camilo Benzi for Italia, solid in goal.

Toronto Supra Portuguese put up a good fight in an effort to pick-up much needed three points for a playoff berth and almost succeeded on two occasions. Both defences held firm and the scoreless tie was a fair result. Both teams lost a player in the second half, Alex Shevier of Supra Portuguese and forward Dragan Radovic were shown red cards for an altercation in the second half.

Serbian White Eagles now have a 13-1-2 WLT record for 41 points and Supra Portuguese are at 3-5-7 for 16 points. Toronto Croatia improve to 11-1-5 for 38 points and Italia Shooters maintain their fourth place in the International Division with 7-5-6 for 27 points.

Serbian White Eagles and Toronto Croatia meet for the second time this season on Monday night, a regular season encounter crucial to the International Division title bid. The game will be played at Ivor Wynne Stadium in Hamilton, an 8 pm kickoff.
