Attendance was 12 (twelve) on this cold night.
Supra’s second goal just before the break really killed off any Border Stars momentum. The Supra players even tried to call the refs back to skip the halftime 15 minute rest on the pretext of getting the game over with so the Border Stars could drive back to Windsor (approx 400km). Hey that would have worked out better for Supra as it would not have let the short staffed visitors recover!
The Border Stars were hurt badly by this game being on a Wednesday night and them only having 12 players. This worked for them last Wednesday when they beat Caribbean Selects with only 12 guys but not this week. Once again Erik Elmauer came in during the second half. Supra had a full bench and could get in fresh legs in the second half to keep the pressure on. This game was originally scheduled to be played Sunday August 27th but (says a Supra official) it was Windsor who didn’t want to play that day because the two teams had met the night before (i.e. August 26th) in Windsor. Now midweek games are killer for Border Stars because they don’t have a full bench. This neutral site field, the rescheduling and the bitterly cold night probably killed off the crowd. Supra won’t make the playoffs this year even with this win.
A rejected handshake offered by Border Stars captain Jeff Hodgson after an injury to a Supra player left a bitter impression and both teams were sniping at each other the rest of the game but referee Mercey Watfa kept the game under control. As the score got out of hand, it was easier for him to officiate.
