Caribbean off the mark

Caribbean Selects were off the mark with their first win in the Canadian Soccer League, a 2-1 defeat of Windsor Border Stars at Windsor Stadium Saturday, while in a second game, played at Memorial Park in the Streetsville district of Mississauga, Toronto Croatia were held to a 2-2 by visiting Laval Dynamites.

Border Stars’ forward Dominic Scicluna opened the scoring at Windsor Stadium after just three minutes, but Caribbean forward Jahmo Welch struck the equalizer at the 30th minute mark. Forward Osman Samura hit the winner for Caribbean Selects eight minutes from time. Windsor goalkeeper Anthony Santilli saved a penalty kick in the first half.

***Toronto Croatia took a 2-0 lead at Memorial Park on goals by forwards Leo Laurito at three minutes and Tommy Ples seven minutes later and the team celebrating its 50th anniversary in Canadian soccer looked like it was heading for a victory until Laval's Moroccan-born forward Rachid Madkour struck at 38 minutes and 74 minutes to salvage a point.

[***Rocket Robin says--they messed up the scoring details about this game with the times of the Toronto Croatia goals. They never had a 2-0 lead.]
