Italia, Croatia tie 0-0
Italia Shooters and Toronto Croatia battled to a scoreless tie in an International Division match at The Soccer Centre in Vaughan, the only game played in the Canadian Soccer League Sunday.
Both teams had good chances to secure a win, but good goalkeeping by Camilo Benzi for Italia or Matt Jurkin in the Croatia goal, or the woodwork at both ends, kept the game to a 0-0 tie.
Jason De Thomasis had the game’s best opportunities with shots saved by Jurkin and on one occasion a good drive struck the foot of the goalpost. Leo Laurito hit the post in the second half for Toronto Croatia, well out of reach of Benzi in the Italia goal.
The tie lifts Toronto Croatia to within five points of Serbian White Eagles at the top of the International Division. Croatia have a 3-1-4 WLT record for 13 points in second place, while Italia Shooters are now at 1-3-3 for six points in third spot.
