TORONTO FC BLANKS CROATIA IN FRIENDLY
Friday - May 4, 2007
Early season test

Toronto FC played host to the Canadian Soccer League’s Toronto Croatia in the MLS club’s first exhibition game on home soil on Wednesday night. TFC set a fast-paced tone to the game in what finished as a 4-0 result over the CSL side.

A relentless TFC attack was met with gritty defending from the opposing side, holding TFC scoreless for the first thirty minutes of the match. Scoring the first goal in the 30th minute was forward Edson Buddle with a powerful strike inside the penalty area. Minutes later, midfielder Carl Robinson capitalized on a free kick opportunity from about eighteen yards, with a chip over the defending wall.

Both teams made a number of substitutions for the second half which saw TFC continue to dictate play and score two additional goals to seal the victory.

The match proved to be a good test for both sides, Toronto FC on its inaugural journey through the tough MLS schedule and Toronto Croatia in preparation for their CSL opener at Trois-Rivieres, Quebec on May 13 followed by a tournament involving teams from several countries in Croatia.

Toronto FC look for their first win in the MLS as they resume play on May 12th .
