Attendance was about 90 people on this evening that started off hot and humid and by the end of the game was cool and windy. The field was in good shape although the Toronto Lynx had finished their PDL league game here just seven hours earlier.
Camilo Benzi earned the shutout for the Shooters. Supra had many chances to score but shot off target very often. At 5 minutes, Supra Helio Pereira after a cornerkick from left bends a 15 yarder from the left that Benzi palms away from the top right corner and Benzi is injured on the play. At 50 minutes, Supra Kevin MacIntosh has his 15 yard roller hit the left post and deflect out of play. This was just two minutes after his 25 yard blast was stopped although he was in the clear and could have run in alone. At 75 minutes Francisco Dos Santos heads a 10 yarder on a leap wide right after receiving a freekick. At 79 minutes, Supra Helio Perreira was given a through ball on the right and rolled a 12 yarder just wide left of the post.
Shooters could have put the game away earlier and increased their lead after scoring. At 25 minutes Shooters Jason DeThomasis’s 25 yard freekick from the left had the goalie fly forward to bat away the ball. At 27 minutes DeThomasis had his 27 yard freekick blocked in the player wall and his rebound over the wall bounced to the goalie.
At 32 minutes Denny Velestegui’s cornerkick from the left had Gladston Richards head the ball wide right from 6 yards. At 62 minutes Sean Myers’s low 20 yard shot has diving goalie push the ball wide right. Stalin Cardenas took the resulting cornerkick and DeThomasis head the ball just over the bar from 7 yards.
No real time to relax as these teams play each other on Sunday evening at 7:00pm at The Soccer Centre where Shooters will be the home team.
