Sunday - May 27, 2007
Italia leads way

Italia Shooters, Serbian White Eagles, St. Catharines Wolves and Toronto Croatia all registered wins in the four games played in the Canadian Soccer League Sunday.

Italia played their fourth game without conceding a goal in the new season, winning 2-0 over Portuguese Supra to repeat the score of Friday night and earn the double over the west end Toronto team. Gladstone Richards opened the scoring for Italia after 10 minutes at The Soccer Centre for a 1-0 score at halftime and Jason De Thomasis made it 2-0 on a penalty kick just two minutes from time. Portuguese midfielder Selmir Sehic was red carded when the penalty was awarded, he picked up a second yellow for tripping. Italia have a 3-0-1WLT record.

Serbian White Eagles prolific striker Sasa Viciknez continued his 2006 scoring pace with two goals in his side’s 3-2 win at Trois-Rivieres, to add to the single in the opening game on May 19. Viciknez scored at 64 minutes and again from the penalty spot three minutes later. But it was Attak forward Darko Kolic who opened the scoring at 16 minutes when he struck a penalty kick at the University of Quebec at Trois-Riveires ground and Kolic also scored with just second remaining to the final whistle, a 3-2 final score. Just a minute earlier, Milos Tanovic made it 3-1 for the Serbian team. Attak’s Massimo Di Ioia was shown the red card at the 86th minute mark. Serbian White Eagles are at 2-2-0, both wins over Trois-Rivieres Attak.

St. Catharines Wolves nipped North York Astros, 1-0, at Esther Shiner Stadium, on a goal by Carlo Arghittu following a mix-up in the Astros goalmouth at the 6th minute mark. Goalkeeper Haidar Al-Shaibain and Paul Okumo failed to clear and Arghuittu stepped in to score.

St. Catharines' goalkeeper Claudio Perri was ejected following a second yellow card at the 88th minute mark. Wolves have a 1-0-1 record after two games.

Toronto Croatia opened their season on a winning note, a 2-1 last minute victory over Canadian Lions at Birchmount Stadium. Hayden Fitzwilliams struck both goals for Croatia at 22 minutes and again just seconds from the final whistle for the winner. Evan Milward had tied the game 1-1 for the Lions at the 75th minute.
