Sampson leads with two

Forward Woreth Sampson of Windsor Border Stars scored twice and Aaron Byrd struck his seventh of the season as Windsor defeated London City 3-1 for a Southwestern Ontario weekend sweep following a 5-0 result in favour of Border Stars Friday.

Sampson’s first goal in the exciting encounter played at Chippewa Valley just outside of Detroit, Michigan, came at the 29th minute mark and Woreth made it 2-0 five minutes later. Byrd found the net 12 minutes later to make it 3-0 to add to his hat-trick in the 5-0 victory at Cove Road on Friday. While the border team were coasting to what appeared to be a 3-0 win, London’s Sean Gauss beat Windsor ‘keeper Anthony Santilli at 86 minutes to reduce the lead, a 3-1 final score.

Windsor lead the National Conference with a 3-3-0 WLT record for nine points following the two weekend wins, while London are at the foot of the same division with a 0-3-1 record for one point.

There are two games slated for Sunday with North York Astros at home to Portuguese Supra, a 4 pm kickoff at Esther Shiner Stadium, and at The Soccer Centre in Vaughan, Italia Shooters are at home to Trois-Rivieres Attak, with a new kickoff time of 5.30 pm.
