Since their departure on June 19, Toronto Croatia has been preparing for the official kick-off of the first International Croatian Tournament being played at Zagreb and the surrounding districts of the Croatian capital.

Sunday, June 24 marked Toronto Croatia’s first game in the round-robin competition – the first game following the opening ceremonies of the tournament at the Stadium Inter City Zapresic.

The opener, against opponents Gradiscanski Hrvat Croatia of Austria, was a 9 p.m. kickoff in front of 20,000 fans.

With temperatures reaching 25 degrees Celsius, the two teams played a scoreless first half, but as the second half progressed, Toronto Croatia put the pressure on and a narrow miss at 37 minutes by Marko Badenikovic, saw his shot hit the crossbar. It was Badenikovic who eventually scored the only goal of the game in the final minutes, the goal coming from a free kick for a 1-0 final score in favour of the Toronto team.

Toronto Croatia will face a number of teams from Austria, Germany, Australia, France, USA and Sweden in the next few games and upcoming games include:
